About Old Mate Eats

About Old Mates Eats. Sara smiling in her kitchen.

Hi, I’m Sara  and welcome to Old Mates Eats!

I’m based on the West Coast of New Zealand, where you’ll usually find me in the kitchen, out hunting, or getting stuck into another project around home.

I created Old Mate Eats as a home for all my recipes, somewhere anyone who finds me on social media can easily come back to find and cook them too.

I’ve always loved feeding the people around me, whether it’s friends, family or even the neighbours down the road. This is my way of sharing that love of food with everyone.

From hearty home-cooked dinners to good old-fashioned baking and something a little wild from the bush, it’s all about bringing good food to the table.

What You’ll Find Here

  • Everyday dinners that are simple, filling and full of flavour.
  • Baking recipes that anyone can whip up, from old favourites to something a little different.
  • Wild game dishes because cooking what you catch is part of who I am, and it’s what makes Old Mate Eats a little different.

For me, food isn’t just about eating. I love cooking as a way to say thanks, dropping off baking as a surprise or making a meal for someone I care about.

Sharing food is how I show love, and Old Mate Eats is where I get to share that same love of food with you.

Why Old Mate Eats?

The name comes from my partner, who’s known on my socials as Old Mate.

He’s the one I cook for the most, the first taste-tester of all my experiments and the one who gives me honest feedback on my food (sometimes a little more honest than I’d like!).

But Old Mate Eats isn’t just about him. It’s about sharing recipes that real people can make, enjoy and come back to time and time again.

My hope is that you’ll become part of that too, trying the recipes, sharing your thoughts and maybe even finding a new favourite along the way.

For me, it’s all about keeping food simple. Meals you’ll actually cook, ingredients you can actually find and recipes you’ll want to make again.

Thanks for being here, mate! Grab a plate, have a browse, and if you want to keep up with new recipes, don’t forget to sign up for my newsletter or follow along on Instagram, TikTok or Facebook.

Happy cooking, mate!
